MBOMBELA – ANC provincial chairman, Mr David Mabuza has confirmed that he is most likely on his way to attaining a national position on the ANC national executive committee (NEC) at its next elective conference. The provincial chairman was re-elected as Mpumalanga premier in May 2014, and the five-year term must be his last as the province’s first citizen.
The ruling party also resolved during its Provincial Governance Conference at Mbombela Stadium last weekend, to support him to stand for a third term as the ANC’s provincial chairman at its conference in October. Mabuza says he does not personally want a position on the ANC’s top six, which will be elected at its national conference in 2017, but the party will probably elect him. His term as premier will come to an end in 2019 only.
“I will try very hard to avoid a situation where the chairman of the ANC in the province is not the premier.”
Mabuza added that he did not have the freedom to choose. “What can I do? There is very little that I can do. If they say go home I will jump. I will be free. Like a cow that was working, ploughing the field… If I am free, I will jump like that but until we die, we are going to take assignments, we are going to be sent and when we get that freedom we always cherish it.
“The journey is still long. And I am happy when I see the young people energetic. The thing is, we can try and teach them the right thing to ensure that our future is in safe hands. “This organisation, when you join it, you will die in it,” he concluded.
