Elderly man found dead in his house

A 55-year-old man, who was found dead with burns at a farm near Low’s Creek, was killed before his room caught fire.
According to investigation officer Det Const ? Mazibuko, Daniel Sibusiso Vilakazi (55) of Honey Bird Farm’s post-mortem results indicated that he had been stabbed in the back four times.

Initially Mazibuko could not disclose whether the inquest docket which had been opened by the police might have been changed to a possible murder or arson case.

However, he stressed that an arrest was imminent in connection with Vilakazi’s death. Earlier, spokesman for Low’s Creek SAPS, Const Khethiwe Themba, said the man who had lived alone was found dead on Thursday March 26.

Themba said police received a complaint of a burning house from a security guard patrolling the farm at around 02:00. “Upon police arrival the officers found all the items inside the room already reduced to ashes. On further preliminary investigation a body of a man believed to be 55 was found. He was declared dead by paramedics and police on the scene.” The deceased was presumed to be the owner of the house.

According to the investigating officer, the post-mortem had been conducted at KaBokweni last Wednesday. “The report for the post-mortem confirms that the deceased was stabbed four times in his back and that it might have been the cause of his death as he had internal bleeding. The house might have been set alight by his attacker(s) to conceal evidence,” Mazibuko said.

He said they were expecting to make an arrest before the end of this week.
Meanwhile, Themba said community members were requested to assist with any information. She added that the cause of death was still being investigated.
