The staff at Nelspruit Hospice experienced a blue Tuesday morning when they came back to their offices after a relaxing time off during the Easter Weekend.
Thieves once again showed their sly intentions last week when they robbed Nelspruit Hospice of their nursing service manager’s expensive laptop over the Easter Weekend. ADT and SAPS were on the scene 15 minutes after the burglary was reported.
Nelspruit Hospice seems to have the worst luck as they had just settled in to their new offices at 84 Ferreira Street after moving from Rothery Street earlier this year. One of the main problems at their previous offices were related to crime and is something that they wanted to avoid with the move.
Last year, the service manager’s laptop was also stolen after burglars gained access into the office. This time however the thieves did not even enter the house as they used a curtain rod to do some laptop fishing.
“The burglars opened the window from the outside. The previous owners left old curtain rods outside and the thieves bent the metal to use as a hook to place the laptop onto the office chair. The thieves then pulled the office chair closer with the rod to the open window,” said Mary Lebotschy CEO of Nelspruit Hospice.
A brick was also found near the window but was ultimately not used as the burglars found a more silent way of achieving their goal.
Lebotschy believes that the wrongdoers used the empty lot next to Hospice’s property to get closer before cutting the electricity to gain access.
“We will need to put up more electric fencing which will cost money, but it has to be done,” she added.
