The White River K9 Unit visited a smallholding outside town, after receiving a tip-off that someone was selling drugs there. Upon their arrival the police officers found two suspects inside and spotted small bags filled with a white substance on a table. During a search of the house, more of these small bags with the same white substance were found, as well an undisclosed amount of cash hidden in a wardrobe.
The two Nigerian nationals, Mr Ernest Nwocha and Mr Chinedu Princewill Onyekwere, both 26, appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court on April 9 and were granted bail at R2 000 each. The case was postponed to May 13 for futher investigation.
This successful bust follows the recovery of a huge cache of goods and the arrest of three suspects three weeks ago. This was also thanks to a tipoff received, this time by an informant of J&M Security White River.
Goods worth more than R700 000 were recovered and included bicycles, generators, building equipment and flatscreen televisions. Community members are urged to visit the police station to see whether any of the items belong to them. This will help the investigating officer link the suspects to crimes in the area and strenghten the case against them.
SAPS urged community members to be their eyes and ears and to report any suspicious activities or crime taking place in the area.
