MBOMBELA – The Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) held a public hearing at the Ehlanzeni District Municipality offices this morning regarding the proposed amalgamation of the Mbombela and Umjindi local municipalities.
Local stakeholders, concerned residents and political affiliations had the chance to query the issue and express their views in the public participation stage of the process.
There was a mixed reaction to the proposed merger with residents from both municipalities either raising their objections or voicing their approvals.
MDB representative, Ms Shivon Wiggins, explained that views expressed during the hearing and those submitted in writing would be considered as determining factors in the final decision.
“We have no political affiliations. Our main purpose is to obtain the views from the public hearing in order to assist us in either amalgamating the two municipalities or keeping them as separate entities,” she said.
