Relatives question cause of death
The body of Mr Elvis Mkhonto was found in a pathway in the early hours of Thursday April 9.
SKHILA – The death of an elderly man has left his family with unanswered questions. The body of Mr Elvis Mkhonto was found in a pathway in the early hours of Thursday April 9.
Ms Shirly Ngobeni, his niece, said that one of the residents told her that they had seen a corpse and thought it could be her relative.
“When I got there and I realised that it was really him, my heart couldn’t handle the thought of what could have happened to him,” she said. According to Ngobeni, the police said that he had died of natural causes but she did not believe it.
“The are rumours going around that my uncle was heard screaming in the middle of the night. I think people tried to rob him and at the end they killed him,” she said.
According to Ms Sarah Ngobeni, a relative who lived on the same yard with Mkhonto, she last saw him on Wednesday.
“I got a little worried when I didn’t hear him come home because he would normally come home with his friends late at night,” she said. Ngobeni was informed by Mkhonto’s friend’s child that they had found him laying in the path.
“On my way I kept hoping it’s not true and when I saw his body lying there I realised that he is gone,” she explained.”My uncle will be laid to rest on Saturday April 18 in Skhila,” said Ngobeni.
