SABIE – A participant in the Forest 2 Falls MTB cycle race passed away this afternoon.
It is believed that Mr Andre Booysen (59), who lived in Lydenburg, had a heart attack during the race.
According to race director Mr Dennis Laurie, Booysen took part in the 37 kilometre race. He collapsed about eight kilometres before the end.
A doctor who also took part was on the scene.
Mr Jacques Ainslie, an intermediate life support (ILS) practitioner with Hi-Tech Medical Services was called to the scene, where Booysen was declered dead shortly after 12:00.
He says they suspect he had a heart attack.
Booysen’s adult son also participated in the race.
Laurie says it is the first time a cyclist has died during the Forest 2 Falls.
