Four seriously injured in collision

LYDENBURG – A man was airlifted to Rob Ferreira Hospital in Mbombela and five more people were taken to the nearby hospital after they had been involved in an accident on May 15 on the Burgersfort Road.
Traffic came to a standstill and the two lanes were closed down while paramedics assisted the injured.
According to Lydenburg SAPS communication officer, Sgt Elizabeth Magoa, the taxi was travelling from Burgersfort when it collided with a Chevrolet that was travelling from Lydenburg. “It was a head-on collision and we can confirm that four people were seriously injured and the other two were only slightly injured,” Magoa said.
The driver of the taxi was airlifted, he is still recovering in hospital and the driver of the small car suffered minor injuries. According to Mr Peter Manzini, the driver of the Chevrolet, the accident happened so quickly, he could not remember exactly what had happened. “There was a sharp corner in the road, by the time the taxi driver saw
my car, there was no way he could swerve out,” he said. Manzini said he was planning to visit the taxi driver in hospital. “I would like to visit him and see how he is recovering,” he added.
“We would like to urge the community to be patient when driving and to abide by the road laws because there are too many accidents happening,” said Magoa.
