Suspended Hawks head return to work

Spokesman for the Hawks confirms that Maj Gen Simon Mapyane returned to work in Mbombela yesterday.

MBOMBELA – The formerly suspended head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga returned to work this week.

Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, spokesman for the Hawks has confirmed that Maj Gen Simon Mapyane returned to work in Mbombela yesterday.

He was removed from his position by former Hawks head Lt Gen Anwar Dramat in November after Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union staged a sit-in at the provincial head office in Mbombela.

Mapyane stands accused of five counts of fraud related to travel claims.

He is due back in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on May 27.
