The biggest of these improvements is the relocation of hawkers to designated areas and the removal of illegal structures. Mr Elvis Ngomane of the Hazyview Chamber of Business and Tourism (HCBT) and Mr Jerry Nxumalo of the municipality are currently working on moving the registered hawkers to the various areas and are steadily making their way through the town’s CBD.
A gang of hawkers that recently started operating in front of Pick ‘n Pay, had several residents worried. According to the HCBT’s Chris Harvie, they were previously operating from the thatched lapa near the traffic circle. Due to the new Twin City development they had to be moved and there are plans to accommodate them formally.
Residents were also happy to see the municipality resealing around two kilometres of roads in the CBD.
Twin City is also reportedly fencing off the site of the new Hazyview Junction shopping centre. This will improve safety as trucks and buses will no longer be able to park on the roadside and turn into the road at random points.
According to water and sanitation manager Mr Jaap van Oudtshoorn, there have been no recent water problems and the new water-treatment plant is set to be completed by September.
