HAZYVIEW – A new era is lying in wait for the Sandford Community Trust after an annual general meeting at the Mbombela municipal offices shed positive light on a number of lingering issues, on Sunday.
The verification of the current beneficiaries will start next Monday. This will help the trust to ensure the legitimacy of each beneficiary’s land claim on the Sandford Farm.
Furthermore, the previous general secretary of the Sandford Community Trust, Mr Riebs Khoza, will remain together with the new trustees to ensure a smooth transition.
The consensus is that Khoza will be given one month to hand over documents and financial statements to the new trustees.
This marks a significant step for the trust which had encountered problems with the election of new trustees over the past years.
Infighting and squabbles over rightful land claims have halted the progress over the years.
Trustee, Mr Mpho Mokoena, informed the audience in attendance that new members had been elected. This was loudly applauded.
The 11 newly elected trustees will still have to be registered by the lawyers for the trust and the beneficiaries, at the High Court in Pretoria.
“On May 5 at Elephant Whispers in Hazyview, the old trustees came to an agreement to stand down, whereby the new trust members would be instituted without further delay,” Mokoena stated.
According to Mr Dumisani Mahlangu, one of the new trustees, Kruger and Partners as well as Stabilis, which are the attorneys and auditors of the trust respectively, will make sure that the admin will be up to date.
The registration and verification process of the beneficiaries will begin on Monday June 1, Mahlangu stated.
