Two people were injured after two vehicles collided on the R40 near Hazyview around 13:00 on last Friday. Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene to find the car wreckages.
The passenger with serious injuries was transported to the nearest hospital by ambulance and the patient whose condition was critical had been airlifted to hospital.
A few hours later on the R40 in Buffelshoek near Acornhoek, a light-delivery vehicle overturned after the driver had lost control. One person was seriously injured and rushed to the nearest hospital.
On Saturday morning at 03:40 a sedan overturned on the R538 near Calcutta. The driver as well as three passengers were seriously injured.
At 04:00 in Acornhoek near Casteel four people were slightly injured after the driver lost control of his light-delivery vehicle. On the R40 in Kiepersol, one person was slightly injured when a light-delivery vehicle’s driver lost control. In Bushbuckridge, the driver of a sedan was seriously injured when the car overturned at about 19:00.
Pedestrians were also warned to be wary when travelling at night, and to wear reflective clothing. They were urged to keep to the sidewalks or the road reserves.
A pedestrian was killed on the R538 in Masoyi at around 20:30, after being hit by a car. Police were currently investigating the various incidents. According to Mr Moete Mmusi of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the high incidence of accidents could be attributed to the fact that it was a month-end weekend and there was an increase in traffic.
Motorists were also inconvenienced when the R538 was blockaded on Monday morning at the Sand River Bridge near Mahushu. The blockade was reportedly part of the community’s protest actions in an attempt to get running water for their community. The Numbi Gate was still accessible from White River.
Drivers are urged to keep their eyes and ears open and to report any crimes and accidents to the nearest relevant authorities.
