MBOMBELA – Social development MEC Ms Nomsa Mtsweni said during her recent budget speech that 55 512 children have been reached through registered Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes.
“ECD remains one of the key focus areas towards a developmental society. Government must accelerate this programme and build on progress made in the delivery of ECD services by ensuring quality and accessibility.”
As much as 60 per cent of Mpumalanga’s children are growing up in households with a per-capita income of less than R650 per month.
Mtsweni says six ECD centres will be added this year to the six already under construction in Mpumalanga.
