Komatipoort policewoman is attacked by mentally ill man
An officer at the local police station was attacked and injured by a mentally ill person on Thursday morning when she was alone at the station.
KOMATIPOORT – According to the Komatipoort Police Station spokesman Const Natacia Mbuyane, the other officers were summoned to the scene of a farm attack at the time of the incident.
“We believe that the mentally ill person saw an opportunity to pick a fight with WO Nancy Lushaba since he was left alone in the station. The suspect grabbed a fire extinguisher, with the intention of using it as a weapon to attack Lushaba,” Mbuyane explained.
She stated that after the suspect realised he was losing the fight he used the fire extinguisher to spray the whole station, before he was restrained and arrested by Lushaba.
The mentally ill suspect appeared in court the following day and was released on grounds of being ill.
