Movie day with the Care Buddies

Being a senior citizen might mean that you don’t have the energy or physical ability to partake in events such as tiresome outings. However, having a fun day out is a great way to bring the elderly together and to have a good time in the process. Every now and then the Care Buddies of Barberton host a movie day.
On Thursday the tone was set for a relaxing morning when the seniors could have some film fun. The venue was the Full Gospel Church and the movie they watched was Shall we dance? featuring actors such as Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and Jennifer Lopez.
The event was not only for the purpose of watching a movie, but creating the complete experience. As no film is complete without snacks, a refreshment stand was operated from the kitchen and no one entered the ”theatre” without snacks and drinks. Everyone had plenty of time to get settled before the show began.
Afterwards a lovely lunch was served. The atmosphere was lively with talks about the attractive Richard Gere and the alluring Jenifer Lopez. “Oh, that Richard Gere is really cute. We all had dance lessons,” remarked Emily Steenkamp. With a twinkle in the eye, Wessels Weller about Lopez remarked, “I wish I was a bit younger. In my day we couldn’t dance like that.”
Ems Steyn said she was now 77, which was known among the senior citizens as having two canes and said, “Two canes or not, I will be going for dance lessons shortly.” Her husband, JP Steyn commented that after Lopez fell, he couldn’t see anything anymore.
After Rhoda Hatting said grace, everyone tucked in and the rest of the day was spent socialising. Pastor Dupie of the Full Gospel Church also came to greet the senior citizens.
