DA’s objection to merger submitted

According to the DA, the demarcation board is misused to achieve its goal and it says the DA would do all in its power to ensure a true democracy with freedom, fairness and opportunity to all.

The proposed merger of Umjindi and Mbombela municipalities has since day one been objected to by the DA.

On Thursday attorney Richard Spoor submitted an objection to the proposed merger to the municipal demarcation board on behalf of the DA.

Barbertonian DA Cllr Philip Minnaar said about the proposed merger, “The large scale of corruption, inability to govern and non-delivery of services have pushed the ANC to a point of no return. This state of affairs forced it to take desperate measures to ensure that it was still in power after the 2016 elections.”

According to the DA, the demarcation board is misused to achieve its goal and it says the DA would do all in its power to ensure a true democracy with freedom, fairness and opportunity to all.
Barberton Times has reported repeatedly on the discontent of the majority of Umjindi residents who are against the proposed amalgamation.
Many of them felt at the time that despite their objections, the board still went ahead with it.

“Instead of being independent, the demarcation board allowed itself to become an ANC-ruled instrument. Our attorneys, Richard Spoor Inc, prepared an excellent objection and we sincerely hope the board will look at this matter objectively without any ANC interference and pressure and withdraw this amalgamation proposal,” said Minnaar.

The DA said it would not hesitate to take this matter to the High Court should the demarcation board continue to ignore the well-being, best interests and wishes of the community.
