Science celebrated throughout province

He said when learners chose a career they should realise that they were designed for accomplishment and that they were in charge of their destiny.

One could hear a pin drop when the CEO of Penreach, Mr Andile Ncontsa, recently addressed learners across the province as part of Penreach’s outreach programme in celebration of National Science Week (NSW).
NSW is an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and a countrywide celebration of science involving various stakeholders and/or role players conducting science-based activities during the week.
Ncontsa encouraged pupils to find something they believed in and to follow their passion. He said when learners chose a career they should realise that they were designed for accomplishment and that they were in charge of their destiny.
He friendly informed them that the companies they were going to work for some day, did not exist yet and encouraged them to stay updated with especially digital technology.
He also told them never to underestimate the importance of reading and encouraged them to read books outside their own culture, religion and gender.
Ncontsa furthermore emphasised the importance of studying science and told the pupils that it had the power to create what worked; the power to create a better world and to make life wonderful.
Ncontsa identified the following skills learners should try to obtain:
• Sense of managing money
• Basic coding (computer)
• How to backup (use of clouds)
• How to write a business plan
• How to set up a website/domain
• How to sell online
• Learn a skill/trade.
