Umjindi rewards devoted employees

Umjindi Local Municipality recently rewarded two of its hard-working employees. The two – Olga Nkosi, who is an HIV/Aids coordinatorn – and Mxolisi Nkosi, who is employed as a librarian at the Emjindini library – both received certificates of merit.
The municipal manager, Pat Msibi, appreciated the two’s commitment and passion in their respective duties.
“As a municipality we are immensely impressed by personnel like yourself who show dedication, commitment to their work and the overall understanding to improve the lives of people in our communities. We congratulate you on all that you have accomplished,” said Msibi.
Olga Nkosi acknowledgement by the municipality followed her triumph in the recently held fourth Ehlanzeni District Aids Lekgotla. During the Lekgotla, Olga came up tops for championing Aids programmes in the municipalities within the region. Umjindi Aids Council was further awarded the first position as the best Local Aids Council for the district of Ehlanzeni for its excellent performance for the year 2014/15. The executive mayor, Cllr Lazaros Mashaba was voted as the best chairperson.
Mxolisi Nkosi acknowledgement was for being successful in representing Umjindi during the Global Libraries Programme which is known as Mzansi Libraries on-line, which was sponsored by the Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation. Mxolisi voluntary took part in a competition on behalf of Umjindi Public Library. This programme was run by the National Libraries of South Africa through the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation.
The aim of the programme was to enhance and strengthen public libraries of South Africa through Information Communication Technology (ICT), accessing free Internet to retrieve information and incorporation of new technologies in existing services, redesigning spaces and technology infrastructure, training and development of users and staff based on identified needs of the community.
He entered the competition in April 2014, immediately after he had learnt about the programme when it was introduce to him through the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation. Umjindi is currently part of the pilot project, and has received its equipment: computers, tablets, play stations with PSP game, educational games and e-readers devices. A programme to train the users in basic skills of using computer and information searching skills is also available at the library. It is aimed at bridging the gap in computer literacy by training community members in the use of technology.
