PHIVA – This past Friday locally established logistics company Buhle Betfu Cargo (BBC) donated over 1 000 chairs to local schools and community centres.

This was heard during the official handover of the goods to the beneficiaries at the Phiva Sugarcane Farmers Energy Centre.

Speaking at the event, acting company CEO for the day, Mr Danny Wagenaar, attributed the current success of the company to God’s grace and favour, and to the fact that it is is not a forced BEEE initiative.

He furthermore said it was a privilege for them to be giving back to the community.

“Even though we also go through rough times, sometimes you can, sometimes you can’t give back. So what we are doing here today is really a privilege to give back to the community.”

Sixty per cent of the company is owned by local cane farmers of Malelane and Komatipoort, and 40 per cent by Cargo Carriers Pty Ltd.

Since the company’s establishment in 2002, it has seen growth which has enabled it to reach operations as far as in KwaZulu-Natal, which has also been beneficiaries of chairs.

A donation of R12 000 was given to all the schools, however, according to the chairman of the company the institutions will not be given cash.

They will be given invoice statements stating how much has been used for what, and what the remaining balance is. The school will then decide what they would like the balance to be used on.
