Kgetjepe officially opens administration block at St Thomas
He also thanked Solly Tayob of Burgersfort Toyota for helping in the building of the first classrooms at the school back in 2001.“Our school was opened in 2000, but today we have our own laboratory, library, computer centre, a hall and the beautiful classrooms,” he added.
BURGERSFORT – St Thomas College officially opened its new gigantic administration block worth more than R3.5 million.
The opening ceremony was held on Saturday August 22 at the Mary Matthew Memorial Hall and was attended by the MEC for education in Limpopo, Mr Ishmael Kgetjepe, Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM)’s mayor, Cllr David Magabe and the local chiefs.
The administration block was officially opened by Kgetjepe.
Before the opening, learners entertained the crowd with extra mural activities like the Indian dance, traditional dance and fusion dance.
Kgetjepe said the college would run more efficiently thanks to the beautiful administration block. “Remember that an investment in education is vital, without education we cannot change the world for the better. We hope this building will encourage the learners to produce a 100 per cent pass rate.”
The MEC concluded that the Limpopo province aimed for an 80 per cent pass rate in this year’s matric results.
In his speech, St Thomas’s chairman of board of directors, Mr Kevin Matthew, thanked local businesses that assisted in erecting the administration block. He also thanked Solly Tayob of Burgersfort Toyota for helping in the building of the first classrooms at the school back in 2001.“Our school was opened in 2000, but today we have our own laboratory, library, computer centre, a hall and the beautiful classrooms,” he added.
Matthew once again vowed to work with neighbouring schools in changing education for the better in the Tubatse area.
