Miss Hazyview’s top 20 finalists preparing for the catwalk

Local beauties had a chance to impress the judges during the top 20 auditions for this year's Miss Hazyview beauty pageant.

Twenty Lowveld beauties were recently chosen as finalists for Miss Hazyview 2015, which will take place at the end of November.

Lulu Shongwe, Ncobile Mdhluli, Naledi Matsane, Nomfundo Khoza, Kgomotso Malele, Cornelia Mabuza, Nomthandazo Ndlovu, Mitchell Madungandaba, Sanele Khoza, Noxolo Mculu, Monica Magagule, Charity Mashego, Cassandra Gininda, Amanda Ndlovu, Zukiswa Maseko, Dephney Magagula, Christie van Wyk, Portia Mhlanga, Thobeka Ndubane and Corrine Dlamini will move on to the top-12 auditions. Dumisile Ndimande was chosen as the alternate, in case one of the girls dropped out.

The Miss Hazyview beauty pageant, which was held for the first time last year, has received a lot of support from local sponsors like Indlovu SUPERSPAR and Protea Hotel Hazyview.

There was a great deal of interest from young women aged 16 to 25 from towns and settlements stretching from Bushbuckridge to Barberton and the organisers may announce a few changes in the coming weeks.

Billy Brown of AB Management, the organisers, says the pageant is a great way to open doors for young women in the Lowveld. “We want to encourage girls to focus on education, take care of themselves and become role models as they are the future leaders of our communities,” he explained.

AB Management believes the next Miss Hazyview should be a good listener, someone with the qualities of a leader, well spoken and ambitious, who can inspire and motivate the youth and is able to relate to people from all walks of life.

During the top-20 auditions, held at Blue Haze Mall on October 10, the girls were dressed in a variety of stylish black outfits. Current Miss Hazyview Nonthando Makhushe and Lizah Matsie and Nomfundo Gumede of Bushbuckridge FM judged the girls on their walk and style.

Each one was also asked a few questions to help judges learn more about her character, ambitions and dreams. Although they were very nervous and some needed to brush up on their general knowledge, there were a few girls who impressed with their outspoken manners and intelligent and passionate answers.

The finalists received advice and cautions on things they should change or keep in mind during the next round of auditions like shoes, inappropriate dresses and strange hairstyles.

The girls are now preparing for the top-12 auditions, which will be held at Protea Hotel Hazyview on November 14. At these closed auditions, they will need to impress the judges with a talent performance and insightful answers to a new set of questions.

The top 12 will then be invited to workshops for coaching and to help them work on their weak points and improve their strengths before the pageant.

Miss Hazyview 2015/16 will be held at OTJ Guest House in Hazyview on November 28 at 15:00 and community members are encouraged to come and support the finalists. Tickets are available at Indlovu SUPERSPAR or from the organisers on 076-334-0162.

During the pageant, the girls will hit the catwalk in evening, casual and swimwear to showcase their walk, unique style and personality.
