Coach Nash-stabbing accused to apply for bail

Ngomane allegedly stabbed Maseko once in the neck after his team - Chucha Silevu FC - were beaten by Maseko's team - Status FC - earlier on Sunday September 6.

The man accused of brutally killing a much-liked local soccer coach, appeared in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court last week Tuesday. Wonder Zwelithini Ngomane (22), who allegedly stabbed Henry “Coach Nash” Maseko (51) in the neck, appeared before Magistrate Thulisile Mthethwa.

He was remanded in custody and his case was postponed to Thursday November 25 for formal bail application. He is facing charges of murder. Ngomane allegedly stabbed Maseko once in the neck after his team – Chucha Silevu FC – were beaten by Maseko’s team – Status FC – earlier on Sunday September 6.
Barberton Times has since established that Ngomane, who is originally from Jeppes Reef in Nkomazi has recently been employed as an Umjindi general worker.

Spokesman, Sam Jele, confirmed that Ngomane was on the council’s payroll.
“Yes, we can confirm that Wonder Zwelithini Ngomane has been employed as a general worker in the department of community services since July 1, 2015,” said Jele.

Asked about actions to be taken against Ngomane since he had not been reporting to work, Jele said according to the council disciplinary code and the collective agreement (Circular 6 of 2010 Clause 10), in the event that the employee (in this case Ngomane) absented himself for more than 10 days without notification to the employer (Umjindi Local Municipality), such employee shall be deemed to have absconded from duty.

“But the employee is entitled to the rules of natural justice being that: he or she must be given an opportunity to present or respond to the letter and write to him or her why he shouldn’t be charged with misconduct. But at the moment there are internal processes that are underway and we can’t give more details while there are pending issues on the matter,” said Jele.

Meanwhile, a huge public protest is planned on November 25 when Ngomane will appear before the court. Local residents have planned to picket outside the Barberton Magistrate’s Court to oppose bail being granted to Ngomane.
