School’s friends thanked for their burning passion

"We thank you for not only opening your hands, but also your hearts to support the school. It has been a great motivation."

MBOMBELA – Hoërskool Bergvlam hosted a function on Wednesday night during which it thanked its sponsors and other role players for their contributions during the past year.

According to Mr Pieter Wolmarans, teacher and events organiser, the sponsorships they received from distinguished community members and business people made it easy to save the little it received from the government.

Wolmarans also added that parents’ participation in school affairs had also grown over the past few years. “We make sure that we request parents’ input in everything we do, that is why some of them trust us with their finances and other support.”

Throughout the year, the school received sporting kits, money and other valuable items. In some cases, community members paid for sport trips for disadvantaged learners. Some also contributed towards events such as the recent  Ms Bergvlam competition.

The headmaster, Ms Anne-Marie Kleynhans, added that they didn’t always require money and that the mere availability of the broader community was also greatly appreciated. She said parent participation had also assisted the school to identify areas that needed to be developed.

“We thank you for not only opening your hands, but also your hearts to support the school. It has been a great motivation,” Kleynhans said.

Kleynhans said the school catered for lot of children from disadvantaged backgrounds but the support from sponsors made it possible for these learners to participate in all activities that required payment. “Most of the people who help us do not have children in the school but you have played a vital role in the well-being of the school,” she added.

Ms Maryna Engelbrencht’s child is a learner at the school and she believed her participation went as far as motivating her child to do more in her academic and sport activities.

“The management here at the school never leave us out, they always include us in all activities,” Engelbrecht said.
She added it was easy for her to support school projects because of the school’s welcoming nature.
