Two nabbed for copper-cable theft

TONGA – Last Tuesday police officers arrested two suspects who were in possession of alleged stolen copper wires.

The officers were on evening patrol when they came across a suspicious-looking vehicle and decided to stop it.

When the bakkie came to a halt, one of the suspects fled the scene, leaving two others in the vehicle.

Police requested the suspects to produce receipts to prove that they were the rightful owners of the cables, and they failed to

do so.

Mr Thulani Silawula (25) and Mr Zoli Sambo (28) were arrested and charged with copper-cable theft.

They appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on November 18 and were remanded in custody after being denied bail.

At the time of going to print, the next court appearance could not be established.
