Distinctions by the dozen for Penryn
The 2015 dux learner, Rebecca Büchner, also received a mention on the IEB Commendable Achievements list. The list includes matriculants who score in the top five per cent of candidates in five subjects. The achievement places her in the top 150 IEB matriculants.
WHITE RIVER – Of the 104 Penryn College matriculants more than half achieved at least one distinction and 88,5 per cent passed with university exemption in the 2015 Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric examinations.
That’s according to the school’s executive head, Mr Chris Erasmus. “We particularly celebrate the quality of passes,” added Erasmus. This exceeds the 85,3 per cent of all IEB matrics who are eligible to enter bachelor’s degree studies.
More than 73 per cent of Penryn matrics achieved above 60 per cent for English; more than 60 per cent of the entire matric group completed and passed mathematics.
Ten of the 21 learners taking dramatic arts achieved above 80 per cent. Four matrics achieved results that place them in the top one per cent of candidates for specific subjects countrywide, namely Nadia Breytenbach (Afrikaans), Rebecca Büchner (life sciences), Kai McKenzie (life sciences) and Sabine Scholle (life orientation).
Candidates who achieved multiple distinctions in various learning areas are:
• Seven distinctions: Rebecca Büchner (English, Afrikaans, mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences, geography, life orientation) and Grant Carstens (English, Afrikaans, mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences, geography, life orientation)
• Six: Kai McKenzie (English, Afrikaans, French, history, life sciences, life orientation)
• Five: Nadia Breytenbach, Anita Gordijn and Roxy Loock
• Four: Simon Attwood, Nandi Cumbi and Sabine Scholle
• Three: Simlindile Dlamini, Lara Hare, Muhammad Ismail, Bernard Jordaan, Terri Lee, Thabi Motlana, Max Vos
