Former SANDF man hands himself over after SAPS raid his home
"He handed himself over on January 11 after we raided his residence. When he saw the police van, he ran away. We searched his home and found SANDF uniforms, an R4 rifle, a pump gun and live ammunition. The suspect appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate`s Court on January 13. He was denied bail and his case was postponed to January 18," said spokesman for Tubatse police, Const Jerial Mvundlela.
BURGERSFORT – A former SANDF member who was terrorising local communities in Tubatse has finally handed himself over to the police.
The suspect, of Taung Village, was charged with possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of ammunition and business robbery.
The man has been on the run since last September. According to the SAPS, he was a threat to local business owners as he frequently robbed them.
“He handed himself over on January 11 after we raided his residence. When he saw the police van, he ran away. We searched his home and found SANDF uniforms, an R4 rifle, a pump gun and live ammunition. The suspect appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate`s Court on January 13. He was denied bail and his case was postponed to January 18,” said spokesman for Tubatse police, Const Jerial Mvundlela.
Meanwhile on January 9 a 19-year-old man was apprehended by Tubatse police on allegations of rape.
The arrest followed an incident that occurred on December 25 at Taung Village where a 47-year-old woman alleged that he had raped her daughter. The case was reported to the SAPS on January 8 and the suspect was arrested the following day.
He appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate`s Court on January 11 and he was not granted bail. His case was postponed to January 18.
