Mayor expresses her satisfaction with last year’s matric results
Of this number, three pupils were among those recognised as top achievers in the province
KAMHLUSHWA – “We are extremely proud of what they have been able to achieve. They have not only represented themselves in a positive light, but have also done so for us as a municipality.”
These were the words of the Nkomazi Local Municipality, Cllr Thulisile Khoza, when she met with Corridor Gazette to congratulate the grade 12 learners of the class of 2015.
According to statistics, the total number of full-time learners who wrote the 2015 grade 12 examination in the province was 54 980, of which only 43 229 passed.
Of this number, three pupils were among those recognised as top achievers in the province, and the Khulangwane circuit as best-performing circuit in the province.
“This is evidence that our teachers are truly dedicated to their jobs, and committed towards playing a positive role in the future of our children. Apart from the learners who received accolades for their achievements, all our grade 12s have represented us very well,” Khoza said.
She continued to encourage those who hadn’t performed as well as they had wished not to despair.
“Don’t lose hope, it is not the end. It may be a very crucial stage in your life, however, regardless of the current outcome, it is not the end, and it can still be improve if need be.” Khoza explained that there were rewriting facilities to assist those who wished to improve their results.
She added that there were also trauma-counselling centres put in place by the Department of Education, to support those who had been disappointed in themselves.
Apart from the toll-free numbers, the centres also offer a please-call-me service from any cellphone.
