Murder accused in court again

The suspect reportedly called the victim's daughter and informed her that he had killed her mother and that she would be next.

LYDENBURG – A man accused of killing his ex-lover’s mother again appeared in the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday February 1.

The suspect reportedly called the victim’s daughter and informed her that he had killed her mother and that she would be next. Her body was found in the bushes at 05:00 on January 20. According to the family, the woman was on her way to work when the man allegedly strangled her then hit her with a pickaxe.

The accused appeared in the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday January 22 and the case was postponed for formal bail application. He has since been remanded in custody.

According to Mr John Mosotho, a family member, they would be happy if he remained in custody. “We do not want him to get bail, we do not want to see him because we do not know what he will do next. The family is still hurt from what he did and we do not want to see him walking free,” he said. “The pain of losing her is still fresh.”

The case was postponed to March 1 for further investigation.
