Burglars target SUV and 4×4 owners

Criminals walk free because they have bribe money. the justice system doesn't do us justice

MALALANE – The Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM) is concerned by the increasing number of armed house robberies in which owners of SUVs and 4×4 vehicles are apparently targeted. NLM spokesman, Mr Cyril Ripinga, said crime has always been here but that it has now taken a grim turn for the worse.

He said, “The Nkomazi Local Municipality has noted with serious concern the ongoing armed house robberies and car theft within its jurisdiction. A number of families have had the traumatic experience of being cable tied and having their cars, particularly SUVs and 4x4s, stolen.”

Meanwhile residents are also unhappy with the justice system, saying it is fails them when it comes to crime.

“Two guys were found in the early hours of the morning after stealing my laptop, cellphone and tablet in my house while I was asleep. The suspects, including a prominent female politician who is said to be their leader, were arrested on Saturday morning. They were found with all the stolen goods. On Tuesday morning, I was informed that the prosecutor had closed the case. Criminals walk free because they have bribe money. The justice system doesn’t do us justice,” said Mr Cain Madonsela.

Ripinga noted the concerns raised by community members and said the proper channels were being followed to address this issue.

He said, “We are engaging all stakeholders, in particular the security sector to help protect our communities. We further appeal to the community to help police to arrest such criminal elements if they are known.”

Furthermore, police spokesman at Tonga, Lt Mzwandile Nyambi, said they were doing their best in the fight against crime.

“We have received reports of this nature, however, we are not sitting downing and not facing it head-on. With the support of the community we can and will win this fight against crime,” Nyambi said.
