Suspects apprehended after food is stolen from secondary school

BURGERSFORT – Tubatse police recently arrested three suspects after the Moukangoe Secondary School at Ga-Motodi Village was burgled on recently.

According to spokesman for the station, Const Jerial Movundlela, they received a tip-off from community members who alleged they had seen some of the stolen goods at one of the homes in the village.

“The suspects allegedly stole a gas stove and food such as tinned fish, rice and maize meal. The food belonged to the learners of the school,” he said.

According to Movundlela, the suspects had apparently eaten and sold some of the food.

“We at least recovered some of the food and the stove. We plead with locals to stop stealing school property,” he warned.

The trio appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on January 27 and were granted R500 bail each. The case was postponed to March 16.

Moukangoe is not the only school to have been burgled this year. Nkota Secondary School in Mabocha also fell victim to thieves. The school’s fence was apparently some  weeks ago.
