Baby dumped in town

Kgaogelo, the name given to a baby girl who was dumped at KFC near the taxi rank a few months ago, is now being raised and taken care of by hospital nurses

BURGERSFORT – Kgaogelo, the name given to a baby girl who was dumped at KFC near the taxi rank a few months ago, is now being raised and taken care of by hospital nurses.

The incident occurred last year on November 21 when locals heard a baby crying in the vicinity of KFC. They found the baby wrapped in blankets. Realising that the baby was abandoned they took her to Burgersfort Clinic, where the police were informed.

After attempts to find the baby’s relatives in the area failed, the police took her to Dilokong Hospital.

There it was determined that she was only a few days old and had no visible injuries or signs of abuse.

The police partnered with the social worker from the hospital and a child negligence docket was opened.

“The baby is still in our care. She is fit and healthy and almost four months old.

“Our nurses took the responsibility to take care of her while the investigation is still on. We are hoping that someone will come forward with more information regarding the baby, but until then she will remain in our care,” said Mr Willie Makola, Dilokong Hospital spokesman.

The local police, Pastors Against Crime, Community Policing Forum, Youth Community Policing Forum, Victim Empowerment Programme and Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units recently visited Kgaogelo in the hospital to shower her with gifts.

If anybody has more information regarding the baby, contact Capt Freddy Moganwe on 071-355-0580 or Const Lesetja Mphahlele on 083-527-2848.
