Disruptions expected around Sopa today

The EFF promised to disrupt the Mpumalanga premier's Sopa at the legislature.

MBOMBELA – The EFF fully intends to make good on its earlier threat to disrupt Mpumalanga premier, Mr David Mabuza’s annual State of the Province Address (Sopa) today.

He is to address the province in the Mpumalanga Legislature at 10:00.

EFF members promised not to allow Mabuza to speak until he had answered their questions.

He has not appeared in the legislature since falling ill at the beginning of September, and upon his return to work, legislature was in recess.

The EFF’s provincial leader, Mr Collen Sedibe said the party would not allow the premier to speak and would disrupt the sitting.

Police spokesman Capt Dawie Pretorius said Government Boulevard in Riverside would be closed to traffic, as it was every year.

Employees and shoppers would still be able to access the mall from the casino side throughout the day.

The opposition parties said Mabuza needed to address the protests that have been plaguing the province lately in his Sopa.
