Local motor racers are ever on their mission to put Lydenburg on the motor-racing map.
Charlie Rothman and his wife Arista participated in the Rustenburg race last Saturday at the local showgrounds.
Racing drivers from all walks of life gathered to compete in this thrilling race, even decorating their cars for the occasion.
The couple went home with three trophies. Charlie participated in three 1660 modified classes and scooped first place in all, receiving a trophy for this great performance, and Arista snatched two aswell. “I took third place in my first race of the day, then first in my second race and I also first place in my last race,” she said. Arista outshone all other participants, receiving the title of driver of the day.

The duo has been participating in motor racing for quite a few years and they keep performing well. Maybe because Charlie started racing when he was only 12 years old. When he met Arista they shared this passion for motor racing and their journey started in 2004.
“Charlie won his first SA1 title in the V8 Flexi class in 2010, he did not let that be his last and won the title again in 2014 and 2015. Last year he also snatched the SA1 title in the 1660 modified class,” said a proud Arista.
Arista herself has made history in oval-track racing, being the first female driver to ever take the SA title in the V8 flexi class and received the SA3 title in 2015. The two made history as it was the first time ever that a husband and wife simultaneously took an SA title in the same division.
“For last week’s race we worked with R&P Autobody and Oellof Sign Writing in town. They went that extra mile to make sure that our cars were in peak condition for the race. We are grateful they share our passion. It is always a pleasure to work with them.”
“Our next big event is on April 30 in Rustenburg, following the regionals and nationals, to defend our SA titles,” said Arista.
