Gospel singer passionate about sharing her message of hope

Precious Mosotho will be performing at the upcoming Nkomazi Youth Night of Worship and chatted about her life and career.

Everyone was initially against her pursuing her dream to be a musician, but gospel music sensation Precious Mosotho is glad she was so obstinate.

Since joining the Spirit of Praise group it has been glory after glory for Mosotho, who will perform in Nkomazi on July 1 during the Nkomazi Youth Night of Worship.

Having started singing professionally in 2009 while she was still a matriculant, it has since became more than just about singing a song. “I preach more than I sing,” Mosotho said.

Born and raised in the East Rand in a township called Daviton, she is a bubbly and active person. “I am a very talkative and friendly person and really enjoys being in the company of new people,” she remarks, a skill that serves her well in the music industry.

Mosotho was selected along with Kgomotso Kgomongwe, Nothando Hlophe during auditions held across the country for the Spirit of Praise team.

“During my third year at varsity, while I was still doing my psychology degree, a friend told me about the auditions. I went there without telling my mother because she was not very understanding of me wanting to enter the music industry. But music runs in the family, and my mother has also been involved in the industry, that is why she doesn’t want me have anything to do with it,” Mosotho said.

When she was accepted to be part of the Spirit of Praise group, she never told her mother. “Not until the day of our first performance at Carnival City. I only did so because I had forgotten my shoes in her car. When she arrived at the venue I was already dressed and ready to get on stage. That was how she accepted my music career,” Mosotho explained.

She has since performed on live DVDs of Zaza Mokhethi and Benjamin Dube, who have also been at the forefront of her training.

Tickets for the Nkomazi Youth Night of Worship are already on sale at R50 per person, available at Nkomazi FM’s offices in Malalane or from Sibusiso Hlophe on 079-387-3659.
