Deputy minister of higher education urges learners to apply on time.

“Not applying on time results in learners falling victim to bogus colleges that are not registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training. We aim to ensure all these bogus colleges are shut down".

BURGERSFORT – Deputy minister of higher education and training and member of parliament, Mr Mduduzi Manana encouraged matric learners to apply at tertiary institutions on time.

Manana was speaking during the launch of the Apply Now/Khetha Career Guidance Campaign held at Dikotope Secondary School on Monday.

The deputy minister also visited Moukangoe Secondary School and Ga Manoke’s Manoke High School on the same day.

“The Apply Now/Khetha Career Guidance Campaign is aimed at encouraging high school learners to apply on time for admission to post-school institutions and thus avert possible stampedes and long queues that take place at the beginning of each academic year,” Manana said.

“Not applying on time results in learners falling victim to bogus colleges that are not registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training. We aim to ensure all these bogus colleges are shut down”.

They were also tipped on courses they could consider studying after matric. Representatives from various universities and colleges took time guiding them on different career paths.

“We need our learners to major in maths and science subjects, this will help in acquiring better jobs. I plead with them to consider artisanship as a career of choice in the 21st century. Gone are the days you will strive for tuition fees, we have programmes like the National Student Financial Aid Scheme that are there to help poor, academically deserving learners.”
