Blood tests indicate policeman was drunk

"We attended to a car accident on Saturday evening at about 19:25. Both the drivers from the Mazda and the police van were intoxicated according to the blood samples taken at Dilokong Hospital. The police officer was unharmed while the three passengers in the Mazda escaped with minor injuries. The police are hard at work with the investigation," he said.

BURGERSFORT – The Limpopo SAPS is minus one van after a police officer crashed into another vehicle in Praktiseer on Saturday evening.

According to eyewitnesses the driver of the police vehicle lost control and crashed into an oncoming Mazda 323 sedan. The incident happened near the traffic lights in the township.

Those who arrived on the scene before the man of the law fled, alleged that the uniformed cop reeked of alcohol.

Tubatse police spokesperson, Const Jerial Sello Movundlela, told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that they are currently investigating a case involving one of their own.

“We attended to a car accident on Saturday evening at about 19:25. Both the drivers from the Mazda and the police van were intoxicated according to the blood samples taken at Dilokong Hospital. The police officer was unharmed while the three passengers in the Mazda escaped with minor injuries. The police are hard at work with the investigation,” he said.

Meanwhile residents were infuriated by the ordeal.

“We are always told the police do not have enough cars while drunkards stroll around with the department’s cars. The vans need to chase after criminals, not roam around taverns,” said Mr Trevor Phaahla from Praktiseer.

When Steelburger/Lydenburg News arrived at the scene there were three bottles of the famous Dutch beer, Heineken inside the police car.

The police officer is stationed at the Burgersfort SAPS. According to sources he is currently suspended.
