Five suspected burglars arrested

OHRIGSTAD – Local police officers reacted swiftly to apprehend suspected burglars who allegedly robbed farm owners at Strydfontein on Sunday morning.

According to the communications officer of the Ohrigstad SAPS, Const Kholofelo Phokane they received a call from the farmers after the robberies.

“The victims were traumatised and angry when they reported the matter to our station. Thanks to our dedicated team which hunted the suspects, five men were arrested that afternoon after they were caught with the stolen goods in their possession in one of the nearby villages (Kgautswana),” said Phokane.

Items recovered were home appliances, including a plasma television, laptops and a bag full of clothes. All the stolen property was recovered. The suspects will appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on June 30.

Phokane urged local communities to blow the whistle on criminal activities in their policing area.

“The best way to curb crime is through better relationships between the communities, policing forum and the police,” he said.
