LYDENBURG – Two suspects were arrested for possession of dagga on Tuesday July 6. This follows after the police received a tip-off regarding the illegal drug dealings.

According to local police spokesman,Capt Alfred Kaizer Moela, the officers received information about suspects transporting dagga from Barberton.

“They were informed that the suspects would leave Barberton at 04:00. Police officers waited for them at The Heads (in Lydenburg) and they arrived in town at 05:30. They were given a description and when they recognised the car they immediately stopped and searched it, and found bags filled of dagga. The two men were immediately detained,” Moela confirmed.

“The driver was a 27-year-old man from Schoemansdal and his passanger a 17-year-old originally from Swaziland.”

Lydenburg Police are happy about the communication channels being built with the public.

“The police would like to applaud the residents for the role they are playing to decrease crime in our town, we want them to continue working with us because together we will be able to fight crime,” Moela concluded.
