Father disappears a day after child’s birth

According to his family, he went out for a coffee at around 10:00 and never returned.

MBOMBELA – A Mozambican citizen, Mr Abdul Mohsin Carimo, disappeared from Mediclinic Nelspruit on Sunday, a day after he became a father to a little girl.

According to his family, he went out for a coffee at around 10:00 and never returned.

“The hospital’s CCTV footage showed that he left the hospital, talking on his cellphone at 10:21,” said Mr Albert Gryvenstein from Bossies Community Justice.

“We are, however, unsure where exactly the abduction took place,” he said. It is alleged that at approximately 14:00, the victim’s Mitshubishi vehicle was spotted on the R40 en route to Barberton.

An eyewitness, who is a gardener in the area, recalls how five suspects abandoned the vehicle, and fled in a white Mercedes- Benz Vito minibus with a Mozambican registration plate.

They had apparently forced Carimo into their vehicle and drove off. The incident was reported to Hermansburg Reaction Unit, which notified ACS Security.

When the latter arrived on the scene, they discovered a birth certificate of the victim’s newborn that was delivered on Saturday. ACS Armed Response members went to Mediclinic where they found his family, who had no idea what had happened Carimo.

“We weren’t aware that he was abducted and initially thought that only his vehicle was stolen. It is only when we spoke to the family that we realised what had happened,” said Mr Johan Kriel, owner of ACS Security.

Local police spokesman, Capt Dawie Pretorius, said they have registered an “enquiry”.
