MOROKE – Limpopo premier, Mr Stan Chupu Mathabatha, said the government would try by all means to renovate state-owned hospitals in the province. Mathabatha addressed thousands of community members during the official opening of the Mecklenburg Hospital’s casualty ward on July 26.
“We are here to ensure that the efforts of our hard-working health professionals are supplemented by a supportive public health infrastructure,” he said.
The premier admitted that some of the health-care infrastructure were old and dilapidated. “Some need to be renovated while others warrant totally new buildings.
“You have to bear in mind that this hospital started operating as a clinic 46 years ago, with only four rooms.” He said the work of improving the health centres are testimony to the government’s commitment to improving the lives of the people.
“It is for this reason that communities are always happy to be led by the ANC, as it is a government that listens to the plight of the people.
“The completion of this facility is one of many projects which the department has put in place with the purpose of providing quality services to our people.”
The new Mecklenburg outpatients’ block boasts a reception area, X-ray facility, casualty, pharmacy, examination room and also an OPD.
According to Mathabatha, the block cost the Limpopo government a staggering R56 million.
He highlighted that the extension was necessitated after the government noticed the population growth in Tubatse.
“We hope that services will be very fast and efficient. This facility belongs to the community of Moroke and surrounding villages, you have to protect it like you protect your homes, families and other property,” he concluded.
