STEELPOORT – The ghost rider of Twickenham Mine has been unmasked.
A horse rider, who was commonly dubbed this name by workers and the community in the vicinity of the mine, is frequently seen riding near the mine, but nobody really knows who he is.
He has now been identified as Wilberforce Mampuru, who owns a piece of land behind the brick yard at the Twikenham turn-off. Mampuru owns three horses, Generaal (Boerperd), Sebastiaan (Palimino) and Arrow (Boerperd). He told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that he rides his horses every day, especially next to the R37 to make them familar with sound of cars and trucks.
He and his wife, Maputle, both love horses and often ride together. Apart from to ride his horses, Mampuru said it relieves stress, is exercise and is something that his whole family enjoys.
