According to the security company’s operations manager, Mr Shaun Terblanche, J&M’s reaction team responded to an alarm at 22:00 on Monday. It came from the well-known furniture store.
“We immediately rushed to the scene,” he said.
Upon their arrival they found the store in disarray. “We found a few ceiling boards missing from the roof. We heard sounds coming from there,” he said.

According to Terblanche, the missing ceiling boards explained how the burglars had gained entry to the store. When the burglars heard the security personnel, they jumped from the roof into the street and fled. J&M called the police, who helped to apprehend the suspects.
“A foot chase followed and, with the assistance of the SAPS, we managed to catch up with the suspects three blocks away,” he said. Terblanche commended the police for their quick response.
Capt Dawie Pretorius from the local police station confirmed that the two suspects, aged 20 and 24, appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on a charge of housebreaking on Wednesday.
A representative of Morkels, who chose not to be named, confirmed that nothing had been stolen.
