Two people died when a tipper truck crashed into a house at Ga-Maphopha Village
NGWAABE – Two people died when a tipper truck crashed into a house at Ga-Maphopha Village, Talane section on Saturday September 10 at about 18:00.
The vehicle, which was fully loaded with sand, destroyed household items inside. The occupants of the house were unharmed.
According to Sekhukhune Police spokesman Const Kevin Mphahlele the truck veered off the road and then plummeted through the brick wall, into a nearby house belonging to Ms Francina Magabane (56).
“Both the driver and the passenger – the owner of the truck, died on the scene.
“The Jaws of Life was used to retrieve their bodies from the cabin, which was buried in rubble,” Mphahlele said.
At the time of going to print the value of the damaged property had not yet been determined.
Magabane told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that it would be difficult for her to rebuild the house as she only earned a little money as a traditional healer.
“I am just stressed because the truck owner’s family has not yet removed the wreckage. It pains me seeing it in my yard every day,” said Magabane. She reiterated that her children and grandchildren were traumatised by the ordeal.
“We were lucky that during the accident, we were in another house in the yard, the truck could have killed us.”
Magabane pleaded with locals, and the Greater Tubatse Fetakgomo Municiplaity (GTFM)’s disaster management to help her regain some balance in her life. According to the family, the house was only completed a couple of years ago.
Mphahlele said the cause of the accident was still unknown and they were still hard at work investigating a culpable homicide case.
He added, “People are advised not to erect structures or build homes next to roads because that’s dangerous to their properties and might result in the loss of lives.
Drivers are also advised to obey traffic rules and stick to speed limits, especially in residential areas.”
