16:16 UPDATE – R40 between Mbombela and Barberton has been opened.
15:54- MBOMBELA – An accident on the R40 today between two trucks on the pass, caused the road to be closed today. According to ER24 emergency services branch manager, Mr Greg Wilcox, he had received the call out to the scene at 14:03.
The trucks were travelling towards Barberton. “The one truck went into the back of the other truck by the Hilltop Pass.”
The road had been closed to traffic for emergency personnel to work at the scene.
He said they treated two patients from the truck which had collided with the back of the other one “The one male patient had sustained fractures to both legs. The other male sustained minor injuries.”
He said they were transported to Mediclinic Nelspruit.
Wilcox said the fire department, police, traffic department and various emergency services had attended to the scene.
