BARBERTON – The teenager who was found in a donga on Monday, was expected to be discharged from hospital on Wednesday.
Dwayne Botes turned 17 on Monday. He went missing on Saturday and was found behind the Jock of the Bushveld Centre on Monday at 12:00.
His father, Mr Hennie Botes, said his son was doing well, and wanted to go back to work. He suspects that his son had used drugs. He said drug dealing was out of control in Barberton, taking place in the open, and seemingly nothing was being done about it. “Why can’t we all stand together and do something about it? Are we afraid? Most people don’t even know their children are using drugs.
“Maybe I’m speaking out of turn, but hopefully speaking out can save one other child’s life.”
Dwayne disappeared on Saturday. His older brother saw him in Shoprite in the company of a girl that morning. That was the last time he was seen. Afterwards, his cellphone was switched off.

Botes searched high and low for his son, asking all of Dwayne’s friends and acquaintances as to his whereabouts. He reported the matter to the SAPS on Monday morning. At approximately 12:00 he received a phone call that his son was at work. The same girl from Saturday had taken him there after she had apparently found him in the donga behind the centre.
His father took him to Barberton General Hospital where he was put on a glucose drip. He couldn’t remember what had happened.
Botes said he had many questions, but one thing was certain – the drug dealers have to be stopped.
“They are killing our children. I urge the community to join me in this quest to eradicate dealers from Barberton. Everybody knows about this problem among our children, but no one seems to do anything. My son could have died and I will not rest until the last bastard has left Barberton.”
