SCHOEMANSKLOOF – Paramedics had their hands full on Sunday night when two separate accidents took place at approximately the same time on the N4. Both incidents took place at about 19:30, approximately 10 kilometres from each other.

In the one, a five-vehicle pile- up occurred near Joubert & Sons Farm Stall. According to Hi-Tech Emergency Medical Services’ Mr Freek Esterhuizen, 15 people were injured. “Most of the injuries were abrasions and trauma to the chest area. Nobody was seriously injured.”

A seven-month-old baby and a one-year-old child were unharmed. “Luckily they were not injured,” Esterhuizen said. The other incident occurred near Patata Nek Pass. ER24 medical services branch manager, Mr Greg Wilcox said two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

A woman was treated for lacerations and a man had a fractured leg. Both patients were transported to hospital by Netcare911 medical services. Esterhuizen thanked ER24, Netcare911, Lifemed and the Mpumalanga Emergency Services for responding to the scene and assisting. “It was a joint effort between all emergency staff as we had two accidents and a lot of patients,” he said.

The Ngodwana police are investigating both accidents.
