BURGERSFORT – As part of Operation Mabone, more than 450 homes were electrified in two villages in Tubatse in the past week.

Buffelshoek and Kampeng were the latest communities to receive electricity from contractor Mphaphuli Consulting. Celebrations were organised and were attended by local councillors as well as traditional leaders.

Jack Sekiti, Eskom’s customer representative, urged locals to use electricity sparingly.

“Avoid misusing your power. When you wash your laundry don’t just put a few clothes in the machine, put a pile in to avoid using more electricity.”

Sekiti also warned villagers to refrain from buying illegal electricity from scammers.

The villagers were also given energy-saving globes, kettles, irons and were provided with power-saving tips. “The bulbs we have given you are top-notch. They save power but also ensure visibility at night. I suggest you get used to them and avoid the 100-watt lights,” added Sekiti.

Cllr Joyce Riba said it was a challenge for the residents to live without power. “I am glad our prayers were finally answered. No more ferrying wood and using paraffin stoves.”
