Forum encourages pupils to become the next Einsteins of tomorrow
Speaking to the crowd, the Nef ambassador, Pelly Malebe, indicated that they aimed to ignite and nurture youth in the country
STEELPOORT – Members of the Next Einstein Forum (Nef) visited Makgwale Secondary School last Thursday as part of the Africa Science Week celebrations. They encouraged learners to study science- and maths-related courses after completing grade 12.Speaking to the crowd, the Nef ambassador, Pelly Malebe, indicated that they aimed to ignite and nurture youth in the country.”We want to instil confidence in them, encourage them so they can achieve anything in this world through education. Learners hold the key to the future, and in order for them to reach their potential they need to be exposed to the opportunities,” Malebe, who is from Steelpoort, told the crowd.Science experts and people who have attained doctorate degrees also took to the podium to encourage and share how they achieved their accolades.The ceremony was concluded with Malebe handing out certificates and trophies to the best learners in maths and science at the school.She was born in Maseven and is also a PhD candidate in biotechnology at the University of Pretoria. Her current research focuses on identifying and developing genetic markers for drought tolerance and yield in crop.The Nef Africa Science Week is the first coordinated science week across Africa. Its primary objective is to develop tomorrow’s scientists and technologists by engaging children and young people in related activities including science caravans and hecatombs.
