Man arrested with unlicensed gun
Members of the community assisted the officers in pinpointing where he might have fled to.

LYDENBURG – SAPS Lydenburg made yet another breakthrough in combating crime when they arrested a 27-year-old man with an unlicensed firearm in the early hours of July 29.
According to Capt Alfred Moela, SAPS spokesman, Elias Motsokonyana was apprehended after officers received a tip-off that he had fired a shot during a family gathering at Marikana Section in Mashishing.
“When police reached the scene, Motsokonyana had already fled. “Members of the community assisted the officers in pinpointing where he might have fled to.”
The police followed up on the information provided, and Motsokonyana was found with the firearm and ammunition in a shack at the Riverside Informal Settlement. He was detained, and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
He appeared in Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court on August 1. He was granted bail of R1000 which he could not pay and thus remains in custody till his next appearance on August 22
