Just 3 points split Lowvelder Golf Challenge top 3
A year's free golf membership is up for grabs as contenders prepare for November's dramatic final showdown.
Paul Gryvenstein has moved to the top spot on the log table after the ninth round of the Lowvelder Golf Challenge played at Mbombela Golf Club on October 7.
Gryvenstein’s third place on the day with 39 Stableford points took him to a total of 191, moving up from fourth to first place.
John Ross Tapson won the day with 40 Stableford points and moved up to second from third, taking his total to 190 points.
The leader after round eight, Jaco Potgieter, scored 34 points and dropped down to third place on the log with 189 points.
In second place on the day was Michelle Wilson with 39 points. She is currently 10th on the log.
Leaderboard battle heads to final leg
The final leg of the 2026 Lowvelder Golf Challenge will be played at Mbombela Golf Club on November 25.
With only three points separating the top three golfers, the final round promises to be a thriller. Tapson, Gryvenstein and Potgieter are the favourites to take the grand prize of a year’s free membership to Mbombela Golf Club.
But Stableford golf has the habit of levelling the playing field, and the likes of Christo Smith (184), Ben Botha (182) and Leon Wait (180) are not out of contention yet.
Players’ top five scores will count towards their final points tally.
Octopi Smart Solutions, Du Toit-Smuts and Partners Attorneys and Castle Lager Double Malt are the sponsors of the 2026 Lowvelder Golf Challenge.
Players are required to book their own rounds and carts via the club on 013 744 0952. Prize eligibility requires attendance at the prize-giving ceremony. All participants must be affiliated with a club and hold an official handicap.
